Periodontal Treatments for a Beautiful, Healthy Smile
Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical gum disease treatment for mild to moderate periodontal infection. Bacteria, plaque, and tartar are removed from your teeth, below the surface of the gum line, to allow the gums to reattach to root surfaces, reduce the depths of periodontal pockets, and restore gum health.
Periodontal maintenance is recommended after gum disease treatment. These visits are performed at intervals of three to four months in order to prevent a reoccurrence of active gum disease. The bacteria that infected your gums naturally live in your mouth, but after gum disease treatment, the populations must be controlled to maintain gum health.
